Reading List 2011
08:37pm 01/01/2012
I am going to make more of an effort to read this year and since discovering the Ibooks on my Iphone it should be a bit easier. Also the WI book club helped me to read which was a big help.

1. The Dice Man - Luke Rhinehart
2. Death by Chocolate - Toby Moore
3. Forever Norton - Peter Gethers
4. The Last Block in Harlem - Christopher Herz
5. Life and Loves of a She Devil - Fay Weldon
6. New Moon - Stephanie Meyer

On Vox: Flu
07:44am 26/11/2008

I really should make more of an effort to keep this up to date, but I'm rubbish so I haven't.

Today is the first day that I attempt to go back to work after being off with flu for 2 days - this is a big deal for me as I just don't get ill and have never ever since I started work after uni taken time off work as sick for anything other than an operation or a car crash.   I've been padding around the house in pjamas for 5 days and it's the first day I've been outside.  I'm currently at the gym waiting for Coddy to finish his workout and then I'll be off to the doctors who will probably tell me to go away - but just want him to check that I don't have a chest infection - I'm assuming that coughing up blood in phlegm should be checked out?

I know I'm not well as I've been totally off my food and that just *never* happens.

Anyway, I'll be trying to post a little more often as I miss Vox and LJ a lot - Facebook is good, but not as good in some ways.

Hope you are all in better health than me - not been this ill since I was 11 years old!

On Vox: Knotted stomach...lumpy throat...chipped tooth...
11:54pm 02/01/2008

I really need to sleep, but last night I couldn't and I'm scared I won't tonight.

I've got lots of big things (good!) happening this year, and some big decisions that might mean big things changing - i.e. work etc and I'm not in the best frame of mind to think too seriously about things with a lack of sleep.

Also I have a chipped tooth and I can't concentrate on anything for long before nudging it with my tongue and feeling the rough amalgam - I was convinced I had pork crackling stuck in my teeth for an hour when I did it.  At least I'm off to the dentist tomorrow so that problem should resolve itself.

There is a lump in my throat and I'm not sure if it's me making it or whether a cold is growing there.

I want to make my resolutions, I kept a few last year so it seemingly was worthwhile...

All I've decided so far is that I want to lose 35 pounds in 17 weeks if possible...let's see how I get on.

Other than that I think my resolutions will centre around more sleep, more health, more reading, more friends, more self development and more Dr David Coddingsteine.

Currently reading...

Interesting, accessible and makes for brain crumbling thinking...I am the delivery guy and Dr David is Avatar when we sit up drinking and watching mindless TV and he gets board of the TV and I grow tired of thinking.  Halfway through and will let you know a final thought when finished as it's a thought experiment and I've not yet come to a full conclusion...

And so now I try and sleep a bit more than I managed last night...I guess that should start with me going to bed...

Night night.

On Vox: Nike Plus....needs some getting used to
01:06pm 10/06/2007

After a lovely lazy day of reading A Play on Words

A Play on Words
Deric Longden

in the garden and on the sofa in the sun room, I decided that today would be more of a day of action.

I have succumbed to buying some new trainers - I use mine at least 6 times a week and I've had them for a year so felt that it was an investment - so I bought some special running trainers - some nike plus ones (I don't have an ipod Nano, but am thinking of getting on so that I can play around with it and find out how far I'm running)  I decided that I was going to do the following route - down the hill, to the canal, along the canal to Rodley and then along the road back here.  On multimap it looks approx 2KM along the road and approx 3KM on the canalside.  I definitely prefer running along the canal - it was flatter and the air was less polluted and exhaust fumed.  I managed to do the route in about 37 mins with a 1 min break at Rodley for some water.  I really need to get a pouch to carry things in as I took my mobile in case I needed to call Coddy to rescue me and it was annoying as I had a mobile in one hand and water in the other.  The new trainers have given me blisters on my insteps, so I obviously need to break them in a bit more.

I now need to tidy up the house, do the washing and ironing, I would ideally like to sand the ceiling as it is annoying me that we have still done hardly anything to make this house properly liveable yet....

I'm also scared that I will happen across a mouse.  On Tuesday evening I was watching TV and Stipey managed to bring in a mouse, I got Coddy to help me rescue the mouse and it was very much alive, but with it's back legs looking very poorly.  Being wimps and animal lovers we couldn't kill it, so we put him in a shoe box with some water and tissue and decided to bury or release depending on what we found in the morning.  Unfortunately when I took the shoebox down in the morning, there was no sign of Mr Mouse, lots of poo, but no mouse, I looked on top of the bookcase where his box had been (some 6 feet high) and there was poo on the top of there, but again no mouse.  We looked everywhere and can't find him, so god knows where he must be, I hope that he is ok though as he looked like a friendly little thing.

On Vox: Race for Life - Year 3!
05:06pm 28/04/2007

I'm doing Race for Life again, and here is the email that some of you might have already seen if you know me IRL.  It's really important to me that I raise lots of money this year (as you will see on my sponsorship page) so if you can send a few pounds my way please do.

Dear all,

Apologies for the mass email and rattling of the charity tin again, but I wanted to promote the fact that I'm doing Race for Life again and am as keen as ever to raise lots of cash to support this excellent cause.

Even if you only have a few pounds to send my way, they are all much appreciated and with gift aid as well can make a huge difference to the quality of care and treatment that cancer sufferers will receive.

Thank you for your anticipated support (and please cross your fingers for the weather as the last two years I've done the race I've got absolutely soaked to the skin!!)

Lots of love

P.S. Rach the 10K races are later on in the year, do you fancy doing one with me - there is one in Leeds in September at Harewood House and there is one in Aldnick Castle near you (or something like that!)

mood: pleased
At the moment I am reading Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure which I am enjoying immensely, and so I decided to find my own googlewhack, which I have just done in the form of

mansuetudes tehran

Gentleness of manner; mildness.

[Middle English, from Old French, from Latin mnsutd, from mnsutus, past participle of mnsuscere, to tame : manus, hand; see man-2 in Indo-European Roots + suscere, to accustom; see s(w)e- in Indo-European Roots.]

–noun a city in and the capital of Iran, in the N part: wartime conference of Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin 1943. 3,150,000.

I then listed it here and am very proud....

Race For Life!
10:09pm 17/05/2006
Well after not doing any running for a long long time, I've just done Race for Life with some of my work colleagues in a fairly respectable 35 mins bearing it mind that it tipped it down with rain and was freezing cold!

Anyway, I'm rattling the online collection tin and so if you can spare a couple of quid, please send it in the direction of this very good cause!

You Are 28 Years Old

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Race for Life!
06:20am 26/03/2005
I decided that with my new found enthusiasm for running, I wanted to work up to doing some races - Race for Life at 5km seemed like a good place to start and also it's for a very good cause. Although I am pretty fortunate to not have had much personal involvement in the suffering that cancer and breast cancer can cause, a few years ago my Aunt was diganosed with Breast Cancer which was a big shock as it doesn't run in our family, and she had never smoked or been exposed to any of the other risk factors - so I guess that made me wake up to the possibility that it could happen to anyone without warning. Luckily she is now in remission, but I did think a few years ago that I ought to do something to raise some support - so I've finally got around to it!

This isn't a post to request for sponsors or anything like that, but I'm quite proud of myself for actually doing something productive with my spare time for a change, and wanted to tell everyone about it - so here is the webpage I've got set up about it so that you can learn more about it and get involved if you like. Run Lucy Run!

Green Day - YAY!
01:26am 30/01/2005
We've just got back from seeing Green Day over in Manchester and it was really really good, possibly one of the best gigs I've seen ever.

Frustratingly we didn't realise that they had a decent support - New Found Glory and ended up totally missing out. However, we were in time to see the "warm up" which was a pink rabbit getting the crowd to dance along to YMCA - very bizarre!

They played a lot of their current album - and chronologically like they do in the album - kicking off with American Idiot which gave me goosebumps. They have started getting a few more guitarists in to help them out, mainly it would seem to Billy Joe could run around madly... They really get the crowd involved, both by getting them to do Mexican Waves, sing in sections and even up on stage to play drums, bass and guitar. It was so sweet to see one kid who was 18 and called Richard who was pulled up on stage to play guitar, the first thing he did was hug Billy Joe and he also went to hug Mike and Trey - in the end Billy Joe was so impressed by his enthusiasm, that he was allowed to keep the guitar.

They played one of their ska numbers, and ended up going into a version of Shout which is a bit off the wall, and also played We are the Champions If I'd been told about this beforehand, I would never have thought that it would have worked, but it did.

The encore was probably one of the best that I have seen with them playing Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Minority and then finishing up with Billy Joe doing a solo of Time of your Life after playing We are the Champions

The whole thing was very motivational, don't know how long that will last, but I absolutely love them to pieces...I really need to listen to them more often, as it really lifts my mood and gets me all fired up to do things.

Yay, I love Green Day!
